Love Lifted Me was written and published in 1912. Composer Howard E. Smith (1863-1918) was a church musician and organist in Connecticut. Author James Rowe (1865-1933) was born in England, the son of a copper miner.
Country singer Kenny Rogers recorded a version with different verse while retaining an adaptation of the refrain.
